Read the following paragraphs carefully. Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

These huge waves wreak terrific damage when they crash on the shores of distant lands or continents. Under a perfectly sunny sky and from an apparently calm sea, a wall of water may break twenty or thirty feet high over beaches and waterfronts, crushing houses and drowning unsuspecting residents and bathers in its path.

How are these waves formed? When a submarine earthquake occurs, it is likely to set up a tremendous amount of shock, disturbing the quite waters of the deep ocean. This disturbance travels to the surface and forms a huge swell in the ocean many miles across. It rolls outward in all directions, and the water lowers in the centre as another as another swell looms up. Thus a series of concentric swells are formed similar to those made when a coin or small pebble is dropped into a basin of water. The big difference is in the size. Each of the concentric rings of basin water traveling out toward the edge is only about an inch across and less than a quarter of an inch high. The swells in the ocean are sometimes nearly a mile wide and rise to several multiple of ten feet in height.

Many of us have heard about these waves, called "tsunami". Nothing was done about tsunamis until after World War II. An underwater earthquake in the Aleutian Islands could start a swell that would break along the shores and cause severe damage. These waves travel hundreds of miles an hour, and one can understand how they would crash!

  1. One surprising aspect of the waves discussed in the passage is the fact that they
    1. are formed in concentric patterns
    2. often strike during clear weather
    3. arise under conditions of cold temperature
    4. are produced by deep swells

  2. It is believed that the waves are caused by
    1. seismic changes
    2. concentric time belts
    3. underwater earthquakes
    4. storms

  3. The normal maximum width of the waves is approximately
    1. one mile
    2. five miles
    3. five feet
    4. ten feet

  4. Nothing was done about the waves until
    1. deaths occurred
    2. a solution was found
    3. millions of dollars worth of damage was incurred
    4. the outbreak of World War II

  5. The movement of the waves has been measured at a speed of
    1. 1 mile an hour
    2. 50 miles an hour
    3. 100 miles an hour
    4. more than a hundred miles an hour

Secrets Behind the Success of Students - Top Position Student Activities

I claim on my personal experience that every student wants to be successful. Wherever you meet a student, ask them some questions. Do you want to achieve the top position in the class? Do you want to have the respectable career after your study? No doubt every student will say yes to some extent of the excitement.

What are the factors that differentiate students through their achievements? What are the secrets behind the top position students? What are the reasons of failure of a student? Let us discuss them one by one.

Hard Work

Hard work is the open secret of this world. If you have this, you are having the most precious tool to find your goal. It seems the compulsory part (more or less) in every success story. If you want to get something, you have to invest something. Apply yourself in your study. Do not see what goes on your left or right. Just put your eyes on your target. Don't let anything interfere you. Work regularly day by day. If your work is regular, it is sure that you are getting nearer and nearer to the target.

Inspiration

Inspiration is a way to keep alive your wishes and dreams. A man struggles as much as his wish inspires him. It's a natural phenomenon. Don't let your wishes down. Keep your inspirations high above every resistance that you face on your way. If you lose it, ultimately you will lose your path.

Consistency

A student should be consistent with his study. Little drops of water forms an ocean when combined together. Study daily. You don't miss even a single day. Eventually your pieces of studies will work as building blocks in the formation of success. It will bring your dreams come into true.

Field of Interest

There lives humane of different nature and interests. Generally people know himself better than others. Choose the field that best fit your interests. There may be some influence from others in this respect particularly from parents. Develop your thinking and concepts in that area strongly.

NTS Papers Solving Strategies - NAT or GAT General Test

To attempt NTS (National Testing Service) test successfully requires special strategies. Otherwise it is difficult to go through these types of papers. I have planned some tips based on my personal experience in NAT and GAT tests.

Most critical point I felt during the exams is time management. NTS examinations are time limited, so the students should not waste their time right from start of the paper to go through all of the questions.
Questions are divided into parts e.g English, quantitative, qualitative. First select that part for which you feel yourself more confident regardless of order.
Some question statements are tricky but not difficult in actual. Don't be panic. Read them carefully and understand them with basic knowledge and present mind.
Read each question at least two times before you encircle the answer.
Don't miss any question. You must check your answer sheet in last two minutes to label such missing and fill them.
If you have confusion regarding a certain point (not picked so well), don't leave it unanswered. Guess the most appropriate answer and encircle it because their is not negative marking.

GAT General Test Sample Question Papers with Explanatory Answers

What type of GAT general test will be? It is a common question in student's mind who are thinking for higher studies after graduation. They look for sample papers. I have searched for past papers but only succeeded to collect model papers. They are best substitute. It gives the idea of paper pattern. it includes not only answer keys but solutions for every question with complete explanation. Revise your previous basic knowledge about Mathematics, English etc.
Following papers are divided into three sections. Check every section for complete sketch and practice it. Download for free and enjoy it.
Note:
Solution is provided at the end of every section.
